Thrown into the plush world of French society, they experience court intrigue and struggle to make any headway politically. In Paris, Jamie struggles to deal with his past, and a fortuitous encounter with Prince Charles affords him promising opportunities, but the Duke of Sandringham's presence complicates matters. Political machinations dominate most of Jamie's time, while Claire puts her healing skills to use. Their plan to stop Culloden moves along, but the forward momentum is jeopardized by past actions. Claire and Jamie host a dinner party to thwart investors in Prince Charles' war effort, while Claire reveals that Jack Randall is alive, which affects Jamie in a surprising way. Jamie and Claire reunite and attempt to extinguish the fires, but Claire undertakes an unexpected change of course and their relationship is put to the test by a past event that comes back to haunt them. Claire's medical knowledge is used to devise a plan to halt a deal that would fill the war chest, but she learns Jamie has reneged on his word, and that leads to problems for both of them. Doctors at L'Hopital Des Anges try to save Claire's life and that of her unborn child; and King Louis accuses two men of practicing the dark arts. Claire and Jamie seek to elicit support from his manipulative grandfather, who may have his own interests at heart, while a visiting Colum MacKenzie has other plans. When Claire and Jamie are reunited with the Lallybroch and MacKenzie men who are in training, his power struggle and her personal battle prove a burden. But an Englishman's visit to the camp provides updated news. Jamie uses Claire's knowledge of the future to lead the Jacobite army into battle against the British, while Claire tends to the wounded, a harsh reminder of the cost of war. Jacobite leaders decide to halt the march on London and send Claire and the Highlanders up north, where a troop of redcoats is making trouble for the Scots. Jamie pulls out all stops in an effort in turn the Jacobite army away from impending slaughter, while Claire comforts the ailing Alex Randall; and Alex devises an outrageous plan to save his child's mother. The Season 2 finale flashes forward to the present, where Claire reveals the truth to her daughter, Brianna, while in the 18 century, the Battle of Culloden arrives and Jamie pulls out all stops to save his loved ones.
